Have a fearless Halloween with these storage tips up your sleeve!

It is that time of the year again! Halloween is approaching and your kids are thrilled about all the fun that the festive occasion brings like getting to indulge in sweet treats, dressing up and being disguised as their favourite characters, and letting their creativity run wild while shopping for decorations and embellishing your home. When all is said and done, are you just as pumped up about it as your kids are or are you concerned about the new stuff like the wigs, decorations and costumes that will be added to your store room and taking up more storage space? Well fear not! We are here to share some useful storage tips so that you can be less spooked out over a shrinking storage space at home.

1. Use sturdy and stackable storage containers

It’s a good idea to plan ahead and get durable storage containers for the costumes and Halloween decorations that you will be reusing some time in future. This will ensure they’re being kept in good condition until you take them out again. Stackable containers are handy especially if you have heavier decorations like costumes with accessories and hardware, pumpkin baskets, skull string lights and Halloween themed bakeware. Storing the slightly heavier items in the bottom containers while also distributing the weight evenly between boxes make it safer for you to retrieve them and also prevent overloading your containers. Many of these containers also come with wheels for convenience which means your floor tiles are less likely to get scratched from boxes being dragged around.

2. Group and label the items according to the spots they’re being displayed

Don’t rack your brain a year or two later trying to recall which containers the items are stored in. Instead, why not make your life easier by labelling the containers, grouping the items and keeping them in different containers based on the parts of your home they’re being used to decorate. This will save you the time of having to rummage through all of them before you find what you’re looking for if they were disorganised.

3. Keep your kids happy by keeping their costumes intact

High quality and realistic costumes can be expensive so you would naturally want to ensure they’re stored properly to keep both your kids and yourself happy. Ideally, if you have extra room in your wardrobe or a hanging rod in a spare room, you would want to hang them up in a garment bag. If the costumes are oversized then you might want to store them in a vacuum-sealed bag which will save you space and protect them from collecting dust.

4. Become an expert at storing Halloween décor of all shapes and sizes

On top of labelling your containers and separating items based on areas of your home to decorate with, why not create a list to keep in the container too? While the stored item names are still fresh in your mind, why not take a few minutes to create a content list so that you’ll literally know it inside and out. If you have little trinkets that your kids treasure and you don’t want to run the risk of losing them, store them in larger items like your pumpkin baskets! Alternatively, you can use jewelry boxes or any container with multiple compartments. If you have more fragile decorations, wrap them with a bubble wrap, paper towel or place them in padded envelopes. For flimsier items made of paper or fabric like Halloween themed cut-outs, keep them in plastic bags so that they’re protected from pests and moisture.
