New Year's Day Resolutions for Singaporeans
Issue: Jan 2020
The New Year’s Day holiday is approaching fast, and that means it is time to start making a list of all of the resolutions that you want to accomplish. According to research, the best aspirations are those that can be achieved within a reasonable amount of time. Otherwise, a person will start to feel defeated by their lack of progress, which may cause them to give up on them.
If a resolution is more challenging, it can still be accomplished by breaking it down into more manageable steps. What this essentially means is that a person can use their New Year’s Day resolutions as a means of reaching the goals that they have been putting off for a while.
For those that don’t know where to get started in the goal-setting process, we came up with the following list of 5 ideas:
1. Lose Weight
Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for preventing the onset of many diseases. The reason for this is that having extra fat increases inflammation in the body. In fact, many doctors say that being as little as 5 pounds overweight can contribute to the development of type-two diabetes.
Besides this, it can also lead to heart disease, certain types of cancer, and damaged joints. Before beginning a new diet and exercise plan to help you lose weight, it is important to always talk to your doctor first to make sure that it is right for you.
2. Learn a New Skill
If there is something that you have always wanted to learn, why not make an effort to find out more about it this year. One way to get started with learning a new skill is to check in with your local community centre. They are especially helpful for acquiring newfound prowess on computer programs, art classes, and gardening. If the skills that you want to learn are geared more towards helping you to get a certain dream job that you have had your eye on for a while, it may be best to check with a few colleges or trade programs instead.
3. Save More Money
Saving money is important as an emergency could strike at any moment where you would need to dive into your savings.
Many experts endorse having at least six months of saved income as it will help you stay protected in times of financial insecurity. From medical problems that may arise to untimely layoffs, having a rainy day fund is imperative and necessary.
However, if your expenses are exceptionally high, you may want to work on saving even more money than this. If you aren’t sure how to begin saving money, check with a local financial adviser as many of them offer free consultations to get you started.
4. Find a New Job
Going to work for at least 40 hours a week can become pretty miserable if you hate the company that you are employed with. So why not make 2019 the year that you finally find a job that you love. Since this is one of the more complicated resolutions to have, consider beginning the process by making a list of the job positions that you have always wanted to try. Then, match them up with companies that are currently hiring so you can start sending out copies of your resume to them.
5. Become More Organised
If your house has become so cluttered that you are starting to feel anxious every time a guest unexpectedly drops by, it may be time to work on becoming more organized. One great way to do this is by renting a few units at a self storage space in Singapore. The self storage units in Singapore are convenient to access, and they have sufficient room to hold everything important to you.
This way, you can finally be at ease when your friends and family members walk into a clean room when they arrive. Having an uncluttered room is also crucial for your emotional health.
